The project aim is to enable poor rural households in western Zimbabwe to sustainably improve their livelihoods by 1) obtaining significant additional and predictable income through the harvest and sale of devil's claw, 2) enabling participants to harvest devil's claw sustainably and preserve it as a source of income, 3) researching the potential benefit to participants of additional trade in other resources, and 4) reducing vulnerability to HIV and AIDS through increasing nutritional status, providing appropriate awareness training, and distributing male and female condoms.
