Gratitude for Grass

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about. —Rumi Fall, for me, is the season of the grass. My early morning walks are full of the majesty of light and dew and robust grasses competing to be the most beautiful.

And the above ground show is just one aspect of the amazing grass. Perhaps the grasses’ greatest benefit to the Earth is an amazing system of deep roots that store carbon, anchor soil, feed the soil food web and provide homes for myriad creatures we rarely notice.

It is so easy to be grateful this Thanksgiving season for the gift of the amazing grasses.
