Writer: onlinehmionlinehmi

Saturday 16.7.2016 11:00 - 15:00 Mantere Farm in Lempäälä, Finland

What would a profitable, sustainable and comfortable agriculture look and sound like? How do you combine quality of life, profitability and ecological sustainability? How can you find meaning in the work? How should you combine grazing livestock and arable farming? Can you truly combine a diverse farm enterprise with a balanced family life? And can farming stop climate change? Come share your experiences, discuss and see at a FREE field day at Mantere Farm. The day will focus on Holistic Management ® - a whole farm planning and management system, which aims to balance human and ecological welfare and profitability. The system is in use on six continents and c.a. 16 million hectares and is applied by more than 13 000 farmers, ranchers or land managers. In Europe the method is increasing in popularity, and the participants have a rare opportunity to meet some of the few people applying Holistic Management in North Europe.  Tuomas Mattila, PhD is training to become the second Holistic Management Certified Educator in Europe. He has applied the method for five years on his own farm and is finalizing his studies with Holistic Management International (HMI). The hosts for the day, Niina and Philipp Mayer, are young agronomists who are charting their family farm towards a diverse, comfortable and profitable future. Topics will inlcude:

  • Farm management is a balancing act: long term development and short term cash flow; quality of life, economy and ecology.

  • Grazing is a tool for better soil health, plus more diversity, carbon sequestration and animal and human welfare.

  • Easy ways to monitor soil health. How does grazing influence these?
