Overview

This five-week online course builds a clear, accessible foundation in Holistic Planned Grazing. It is designed for ranchers, landowners, partners, ranch family members, agency staff, and anyone with a stake in how land is managed. Whether you're new to ranching, transitioning to regenerative practices, or simply want to better understand the decisions being made on the land, this course meets you where you are.

Instead of jumping straight into building a grazing plan, we focus on the why behind grazing decisions. You will develop a shared language, sharpen your observation skills, and gain the confidence to participate in meaningful conversations about land, livestock, and long-term outcomes.

Through interactive sessions, practical examples, and guided reflection, you will begin to see how grazing impacts ecosystem health, productivity, and resilience, and where your role fits within that system.

This course is especially valuable for:

  • Ranchers and land stewards who are not ready to build a full grazing plan yet

  • Landowners, partners, and family members who want to engage more confidently in management decisions

  • New or transitioning producers exploring regenerative or holistic approaches

  • Agency, nonprofit, and conservation professionals seeking a shared language with producers

  • Anyone curious about how grazing animals can be managed to improve land health

What you will walk away with:

  • A clear understanding of the principles behind Holistic Planned Grazing

  • The ability to recognize how grazing impacts soil, plants, animals, and profitability

  • Stronger observation skills and a more developed “grazier’s eye”

  • A shared language to communicate effectively with managers, partners, and teams

  • Confidence to contribute to ranch discussions and decision-making

  • A solid foundation for creating a grazing plan when you are ready

*We strongly recommend taking this course before Holistic Grazing Planning, especially for those new to land stewardship or transitioning to regenerative grazing.
